A Note from the Principal

Good morning!

Thank you to everyone who came to the Family Mass yesterday. We had a great turn out!

Please note that the parent workshop from Ms. Farrohi has been moved to October 16th at 5pm. Please take some time to join us!

Our C3 Ignite technology grant devices have come in! We received one iPad per student in grades K-8th. Students will use these devices in the classroom and may bring them home as needed at the teachers' discretion. Permission slips will go home this week. Please sign and return ASAP.

Progress reports will be published on Wednesday this week. Please log in to Schoolspeak and check your student's grades.

Our Jog-a-Thon "Bounce-a-Thon" is sure to be one of the best days of the school year! Be sure to register:
The money raised at this event will help us grow our school program. Thank you to everyone who signed up to volunteer! Parents who want to come to watch are welcome. The event will start at 9am. If you'd like to donate items for service hours, please see our amazon wishlist (every $30 is equal to 1 hour of service): https://www.amazon.com/hz/wishlist/ls/1LMREFS3PHNTL?type=wishlist
*Families that pay the $550 family donation and would like to participate just need to sign the permission slip that went home. If you DO NOT want your child to participate, please contact your child's teacher.

Please remember: If your child goes to the doctor and gets a shot, please send us a copy of their updated vaccine records ASAP :)

Many Blessings!
Mrs. Giron

A Note from the Principal

Good morning!

There will be no school today due to a WASC work day.

Student of the month is based on our character pillars of the Month. Our teachers actively teach and emphasize these character traits throughout the month.  The student of the month for Aug/Sept was Responsibility & for October it is Respect. This month, be sure to talk to your children about how they can show respect for those around them. Read more below!

St. Frances de Sales will be hosting a High School Night this Thursday, September 26th. Be sure to stop by and meet representatives from the local high schools (See flyer below).

Our Jog-a-Thon theme this year will be "Bounce-a-Thon" where we will be renting inflatable obstacle courses for the students to jump through during the jog a thon. It is our BIGGEST fundraiser for the students so please check out the paperwork going home tomorrow (Tuesday).

Wear your favorite color shirts on Wednesday with school bottoms to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month.

Please join us for our first Family Mass of the year on Sunday at 9am hosted by the 8th grade!

Many Blessings!
Mrs. Giron

Character Pillar of the Month: October

Dear SJF Parents:
Respect is a critical element in all healthy relationships. When children respect others, they treat people with consideration and courtesy and do not violate them physically or verbally. Respect for others should be woven into the fabric of each student’s life and characterize all of their relationships. It is a fundamental character quality that prepares children to live productive lives as they relate to and work with others.

Respect for others is based on self-respect and self-respect in children comes from being treated with respect by their parents and other adult role models. Teaching children self-respect does not mean complimenting everything they do. They also need honest criticism. When we do criticize, we should focus on things they have done, not on them personally.

What You Can Do:
• Encourage your child to build a positive identity that focuses on his/her integrity and talents.
• Emphasize that character is built upon the decisions and actions a person takes.
• Help your child reach his/her full potential by encouraging him/her to develop their talents, set reachable goals and honor themselves as a unique person.
• Teach your child how to choose good values.

Five Ways to Teach Respect:
1. Do as I do - Children learn from the example show them. Do as I say – Do as I say will be better received after “do as I do” has been taken care of.
2. Show them respect – Respect is not only about showing people who are older than you regard. It’s about establishing in everyone’s mind the dignity of the human person.
3. Teach them at an early age – It’s never too late to teach and model respectful behavior but always start as soon as possible.
4. Negative and Positive Responses – Learn to show disapproval when they talk or act disrespectfully to others. When they act respectfully ALWAYS show your appreciation or approval of their actions.
5. Monitor their environment – When people come to your house, let them know that bad manners are strongly discouraged. The goal of your home is to make everyone feel respected.

Thank you for helping us to form scholars and good people, one child at a time.

Good morning!

I hope you all found some air conditioning this weekend!
Hopefully today will be the last day of this extreme heat. I know everyone is hot and uncomfortable and we thank your for your understanding and patience.

Ali catering wanted us to let you know that their menu for today and tomorrow will be flipped. They'll be offering chicken nuggets tomorrow instead of ravioli.

There will be no Armenian Level 2 class today (Monday) as Ms. Ananyan will not be in.

Fr. Santi and I would like to remind all families that shorts and skirts should be no higher than 1-2 inches above the knee. We will start enforcing this policy more strictly this week. Please be sure to order a bigger size if your child has grown taller over the summer :)

Today is picture day & all students too a photo for our yearbook. If you would still like to order, please do so online: www.shopstudio1.com online order code: J455        Make up picture day will be on October 22,2024.

Congratulations to Mrs. Bennett who had her baby boy last Thursday.

A Note from the Principal

Good morning!

This week there is going to be an extreme heat wave getting up to 107 by Thursday! We will plan to have an indoor (rainy day) lunch on Wednesday and Thursday. PE will be inside the classrooms starting after recess everyday this week. Please be sure to send  a water bottle and cool clothes (no sweaters this week- even for mass- please).

If your child is still here 15 minutes after dismissal, they will be sent to After School Care. In order to pick up from after school you will enter through the cafeteria located in the church parking lot. The daily rate of $25/day will be charged at the end of every month. You may call of after school phone number from 3pm-6pm daily (818) 233-0763⁩.

My son, Evan, and his baseball team will be doing a carwash here on Saturday from 1-4pm to fundraise for their Cooperstown trip next summer. If you need a carwash come on by!

Reminders from Last Week:
Drop Off:
Valet tips- please have students sit on the driver's side in the back if possible and be ready to get out of the car upon arrival. Please wait until you are at the 3 front spots in the line to exit the vehicle. Parents should never exit the car. Please drop off in the parking lot until 8am. After 8am, please drop off in the school office on Hamlin st.

Pick up:
Please do not arrive earlier than 2:30pm (or 12:15 on Fridays). There is no reason to line up in front of the gates and do not line up on Victory Blvd. as this may cause traffic/accidents on the street. Thank you for remaining in the parking lot until the bell rings at 2:45pm (12:30 on Fridays). We encourage middle school parents to arrive a little later around 2:55pm (12:40 on Fridays) for a smoother pickup (and to avoid traffic).

NEVER walk through the drive-in gate on Hamlin St. This is dangerous with all the cars exiting. Please only walk through the school office if needed.

Many Blessings!
