A Note from the Principals

Good afternoon,

Great job to the drama class, choir, Armenian language classes, and the ballet class for an amazing performance last week!

Christmas Spirit Week:
Monday: Pajama Day
Tuesday: Dress as your favorite Christmas Character!
Wednesday: Flannel, ugly sweaters, and scarves (with school bottoms)
Thursday: Christmas Best (for Holiday Concerts)
Friday: Band Tees and Holiday Flair with school bottoms OR Mass attire
The whole week is regular dismissal times and NO daycare or after-school classes on Friday. School will resume on Wednesday, January 7th.

The church is having a New Year's Eve party. Join them for a night of dancing and good food. Purchase tickets in the church office.

PARKING: The church is still repaving the lower parking lot. We thank you for your continued patience as we navigate the logistics of this project. Logistics of drop off and pick up will be the same. Families may park on Hamlin Street instead of the church lot this week. We know it will be a bit frustrating over the next week, so please try not to arrive early for pickup and plan for extra time if needed.

Good afternoon,

Thank you all for the generous donations for our Adopt a Family Project! You have made three families' whole Christmas!!

This week, the students will have mass on Monday AND on Friday.

Santa's workshop will be on Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday this week. All students have received a white envelope to make their Christmas list and bring in their money.

PARKING: This week, starting tomorrow, the church will start repaving the lower parking lot. We thank you in advance for your patience as we navigate the logistics of this project. Logistics of drop off and pick up will be the same. Families may park on Hamlin Street instead of the church lot this week. Due to the limited parking, we have decided to cancel the Christmas train parade this year. We know it will be a bit frustrating over the next week, so please try not to arrive early for pickup and plan for extra time if needed.

Please join us for our Winter Showcase performance Thursday night at 7pm and support our Performing Arts programs. See attached flyer! Kids today are sleeping less than any generation before them, largely because of late-night scrolling. Sleep loss fuels anxiety, irritability, and poor focus.

A Note from the Principals

Good afternoon,

I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving! We are so blessed to be a small part of your children's lives. We are so grateful that you have chosen St. Jane Frances as your school and community.

Fr. Santi would like to invite you all to the Ecumenical Prayer service tomorrow, Tuesday 12/2/25 at 7 pm at St. Leon Church (3325 North Glenoaks Blvd. Burbank, CA 91504) as well as the Armenian service at our church this Sunday at 10 am as we will be hosting Bishop Hovnan. Both services are open to everyone. Please join us.

The church is also hosting an Advent retreat this Saturday from 7:30am to 1:30pm. It is $15 per person and is meant to bring us all closer as a community and to our Lord. Please call the parish office to register.

Our yearly dental screening will be tomorrow (Tuesday). If you do not wish for your child to have the screening, please fill out the form sent home or let your teacher know.

We are adopting 3 families in need this Christmas through the Archdiocese's "Adopt a Family" Program. These are families that have shown a great need of help. We hope everyone can help in one way or another. Here is the list of items we need to collect to help these families through the holidays: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10C0544A4AE2AA2FDC43-60514001-christmas#/

Week 4: Freedom Builds Resilience
Kids grow strong by facing small challenges and recovering from them. Overprotection and constant supervision — even with love — can stifle confidence.

Try this: Let your child walk the dog, ride their bike, or order their own food. Independence grows courage.

Week 2: The Phone Trap

When kids are online, they aren’t asleep, outside, or with friends — all of which protect mental health. The data is clear: more screen time equals more anxiety and less joy.
Try this: Collect all devices at a “family charging station” an hour before bedtime.

A Note from the Principals

Dear Parents,
Over the next several weeks, I’ll be sharing insights from
The Anxious Generation by Jonathan Haidt — a book that’s sparking important conversations about how today’s technology-driven childhood affects our children’s mental health, friendships, and faith formation.

Our goal is simple: to help families rediscover what kids really need to thrive — connection, courage, faith, and freedom. Each week, you’ll find a short blurb in this newsletter with a practical “try this” tip to support healthy growth at home.

We can’t turn back time, but we can move forward with wisdom — helping our children find peace and purpose in a noisy world. I encourage you to get a copy and read along with us!
-Mrs. Giron

Week 1: Reclaiming Childhood

We’ve replaced playgrounds with phones — and kids are paying the price. Haidt shows that free play teaches kids how to manage risk, solve problems, and build confidence. Without it, anxiety grows.
Try this: Schedule one “no-agenda play” time each week — no screens, no structure, just kids being kids.

I'm not sure who had more fun- the kids or the parents :)  A special thank you to our event committee and sponsors for coordinating everything for this special day! If you won a silent auction or raffle prize, we will be reaching out by tomorrow.

Here is a gentle reminder to check your child's phone on a regular basis. Many bigger problems can be prevented by checking what they are doing online and texting to their friends. I recommend a monitoring app. I use Bark (bark.us) for my family. Here is an article with reviews of other apps too: https://www.forbes.com/advisor/l/parental-controls/

Blessing of the Animals is on Wednesday. It will begin during morning assembly. Families are invited to bring in a pet (on a leash or in a cage) to be blessed. All animals must leave campus after the assembly is over. Students may also bring a photo or a stuffed animal.

It's progress report time, but our new system isn't pulling the reports correctly. Teachers will reach out to any parents if they have an academic concern. Please use this week to ask your teachers any questions about academics if you have any. Parent conferences will be held November 18-20th.

No school on Monday, Oct. 12- Indigenous Peoples' Day.

Halloween Volunteer Sign-ups. If you are interested in volunteering to decorate your trunk on Halloween for our Trunk-or-Treat, we need 30 parent volunteers. Click the sign-up genius link to sign up: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10C0D49ACA722A0FDCE9-59001898-trunk

Many Blessings!

MEET THE SAINT SEBASTIAN SPORTS PROJECT
Supporting Catholic Schools Through Sports

WHO ARE WE?
The Saint Sebastian Sports Project is non-profit, founded in 2009 that supports the sports programs at 80 Catholic schools in the LA Archdiocese to give every school child in the Los Angeles Archdiocese the chance to learn the skills, experience the growth, and share in the joy of participating in a school sports team.

WHAT DO WE DO?
 Help fund equipment, uniforms and team fees for 80 Catholic schools in the Archdiocese
 Host clinics to make sure kids are receiving quality coaching
 Hold tournaments to give teams that don’t normally qualify for post-season play the thrill of competing
in a championship
 Score tickets to UCLA, USC games and other local sporting events
 Hold a Leadership Academy for outstanding high school bound 8th graders

WHO ARE OUR PARTNERS?
We have partnered with a number of like-minded organizations to expand our reach and deepen our impact.
 Fit Kids- provides a comprehensive physical education curriculum to every SSSP school
 The Science of Sport—hosts an annual field day to teach STEM subjects through sports
 LA84- provides coaching stipends for our schools
 Smart & Final—offers annual grants for uniforms and equipment

WHAT ARE THE RESULTS?
Numerous studies have established the positive effects of exercise among children and teens. SSSP schools report higher attendance rates for students who play sports. Student athletes also achieve higher grades and tend to go on to play sports in high school. Pope Francis has noted the importance of sports, pointing out that sport is a tool that can be used for problem solving and to “achieve a profound transformation of our society.”

QUESTIONS?
Visit our web site: www.saintsebastianporject.org or reach out to your school Athletic Director or Principal for more information on how you and your child can benefit from SSSP.
