by: Nicholas Pizzello The St. Jane Frances football teams have played hard for the last four weekends, but there have been vital errors in all of the games. Although both teams have shown growth over the season, neither have won a game. The main problems have been blocking for both teams, and it definitely gave the other team an advantage. There has been improvement in this area, but the teams still have a ways to go.
Coach Cuevas said after the first game of the season, “We’ll need to have fewer pass plays and more runs. Only short throws also, while we have a head start on them. We also are going to need to work a lot on our blocking.” On average, Daveon O. run for 95 yards per game and, in the first game, he scored the team’s only touchdown. Ace N. also caught a 20-yard throw and ran for 10. Christian V. knocked down a throw, which would have otherwise been a touchdown. Nicholas P. threw for 95 yards. They did give up a few interceptions and lost yards. In the first Bravo game (B team) Matthew P. ran for 50 yards and threw for 10 yards. Sharbel A. ran for 65 yards on a kick return. He made a great run on that play, running along the sidelines but never stepping out of bounds. There were some good defensive plays also. Sharbel held a man for an incomplete pass and Matthew sacked a QB (quarterback). Matthew P. says, “Our team needs to work on their blocking and rushing a lot.” On the Alpha’s second game three of the main players were not at the game, and they were the team’s best blockers. Matthew was put in the Alpha game. There were a few upsides, with a good kick by Angel, and a few runs from Daveon, amounting to about 55 yards for him. Matthew ran for 40 yards. The other team did have a few plays that probably could’ve been stopped, like a touchdown on a kick and an interception. SJF also had a few hikes that went high, costing yards. All in all, they did OK, but it looks like SJF could use a few more Hail Marys. |
