We would like to thank each of our families for choosing SJF and Catholic Schools. It is a sacrifice and an intentional decision that you make for the future of your children & we are so happy to be able to help you educate them and share the love of God with them everyday! Please see the flyer below to see the fun events we have planned for the week.

We have also attached the flyer for Grandparent's Day!

How to Decrease Screen Time

Despite what ads may say, videos that are aimed at very young children do not improve their development. Less than 2 hours a day for children under 14 is what is recommended by  researchers.
Cutting down to 2 hours a day can be hard for some children because TV may be such a large part of their daily routines. But you can help your children by telling them how sedentary activities affect their overall health.

To decrease screen time:

  • Remove the TV or computer from your child's bedroom.
  • DO NOT allow TV watching during meals or homework.
  • DO NOT let your child eat while watching TV or using the computer.
  • DO NOT leave the TV on for background noise. Turn on the radio instead, or have no background noise.
  • Decide which programs to watch ahead of time. Turn off the TV when those programs are over.
  • Suggest other activities, such as family board games, puzzles, or going for a walk.
  • Keep a record of how much time is spent in front of a screen. Try to spend the same amount of time being active.
  • Be a good role model as a parent. Decrease your own screen time to 2 hours a day.
  • Challenge your family to go 1 week without watching TV or doing other screen-time activities. Find things to do with your time that get you moving and burning energy.

TikToc 101

TikTok is a social network for sharing user-generated videos, mostly of people lip-synching to popular songs.

You can provide a buffer between kids and iffy content by watching with your kids and making videos together. Offer to hold the camera or turn it around to do a selfie duet. You can post it or save it as "private" so only you can see. The app also lets you share videos by email, text, or other social media where you can better control who sees it, so kids can perform for friends and relatives instead of a wider network of people.

Many children will receive new gaming systems and devices this Christmas season. There are so many games on the market it is almost impossible to know what each is about and/or if they are appropriate for your child. The website above: CommonSenseMedia.org rates & reviews all games (and movies, tv shows, etc) for content. It's a great way to check to see if the game you are allowing your children to play is appropriate for them.
