A Note from the Principals

I hope you all had a fun spirit week!
It was so great to see everyone at the parade & your pictures all week ;) I added a few of them to this newsletter below.

If you were not able to join us for our parent zoom, here are the key takeaways from our parent meeting on Thursday, April 23:
  • as of now there is no set date to resume classes on campus
  • currently we are working out different plans for events such as graduation, carnival (for now hold on to your tickets), potential summer school ...if you have any ideas feel free to send them our way...no decisions are being made for now as we are in the planning stage
  • Office will be open Mondays & Thursdays from 9am-12pm to assist parents who need support with internet enabled devices (ipads), tuition payments, and  re-register for 2020-2021 school year
  • digital agreements were emailed to parents who applied for financial aid
  • We urge everyone intending to return for the 2020-2021 school year to re-register as soon as possible. Budget information is due at the archdiocese and staffing decisions will need to be made based on number of students enrolled. We would love to have everyone back, please reach out if you need assistance. We are here to help!
A note from the diocese regarding email scams:
The Archdiocese, including its priests, principals, and ACC staff members, will not send you an e-mail or text message asking for gift cards to respond to urgent situations (such as needing to care for a parishioner suffering from cancer).  If you have any questions about the validity of the request, please call the purported sender at the parish or school’s published phone number.  Do not call a number included in the suspicious e-mail, since it could go to the person perpetrating the fraud.

A Note from the Principals

Welcome to Holy Week. The most reflective and meaningful week in our Catholic faith. Here is a great series of videos on youtube for each day this week starting yesterday on Palm Sunday: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IJjDe33xADg

Thank you everyone who joined us on Friday evening on our zoom meeting. It was so nice to see all of you! If you were unable to join us, here is what we talked about:

What will the next weeks look like?
  • Monday, April 6: regular distance learning
  • Tuesday, April 7: regular distance learning
  • Wednesday, April 8: religion assignment (1/2 day)
  • Thursday, April 9: begin spring break
  • April 9 - April 17: spring break, Happy Easter, no distance learning
  • Monday, April 20: resume distance learning
When will students return to school?
  • The Archdiocese has extended our return date and currently has not identified a return date. We are waiting for guidelines from the archdiocese and Department of Health for a new return date.
  • We are planning on at LEAST until May 4.
  • We REALLY don't want to write off the school year. Even if we can come back for a few weeks we want to keep that option open.
Our students would be in school with teachers for 6hrs, now they are not. How will this affect their learning?
  • We understand learning has shifted, however, we need to remember we are in a state of emergency. We are working hard to ensure students are learning essential standards for their grade level. Teachers collaborate daily and are keeping track of the standards that students will need further instruction on upon their return.
  • All students will be able to move on to their next grade level, IF retention was not spoken about previously.
Are students expected to take their last STAR test of the year?
The last STAR test will not be administered per the Excellence Team of the archdiocese.

Will we have the school carnival in May?
  • Currently the city is not granting carnival permits.
  • We may be able to have our carnival over the summer...we will update you as soon as we have more information
What will happen to our service hours?
  • If we do have our carnival over the summer, families are expected to complete their hours then.
Will tuition payments be enough to pay teachers?
  • We encourage all of our parents to pay their tuition as best they can. We are doing our best to support all of our teachers & staff members and families as well. If you are having trouble making payments please reach out to our school office or email us at agiron@stjanefrancesschool.org
We are thankful to all of our families for their support and patience at this time. We are moved by all the positive messages and support received from our families. Thank you!
We will have another zoom parent meeting after Easter break.

We'd like to wish Ms. D, our amazing secretary, a very happy birthday today. May she continue to be a bright light in our school office!
