A Note from the Principals

Thank you everyone who joined us for Family Mass yesterday! The fifth grade class did a great job planning and singing at the mass.

The Jog-a-Thon 2019 paperwork is going home today. 100% of all money collected will go toward your fundraising credit. It's going to be a SUPER good time :)

Please send in any boxtops to the office by Friday. General Mills has implemented a new way to raise money for our school instead of cutting boxtops!  There is now a Box Tops App that you can download. You just scan your receipts & we will automatically get credit for all General Mills products...no cutting required.

The church carnival is coming up soon. We are selling pre-sale ride tickets & wristbands in the office $16 for a sheet of tickets & $25 for a wristband. Volunteer sign-ups will be available soon!

Reminders:
-Dance Class for grades TK-5 are every Thursday after school. If you are interested, please see the school office. They will be performing during our Harvest festival in November!
-Armenian Classes start today from 3-4pm! Please see the office if you have not yet registered.

We wish Ms. Ventura (TK Teacher) a very happy birthday today! May God continue to bless her as she works with our little scholars.

Have a great week!

A Note from the Principals

"Dear young people, Jesus wants to be your friend, and wants you to spread the joy of this friendship everywhere."- Pope Francis

Last week we had a great assembly called NED. The presenter did a great job teaching the students lessons through storytelling & yo-yo tricks!
NED stand for "Never give up. Encourage others. & Do your best." We hope to continue these lessons through the school year. The presentation was free but we'd like to "pay it forward"  by selling NED yo-yos so another school can receive a free presentation as well. Yo-yos will be on sale through Wednesday this week.

Our first student of the month assembly will be on Friday! This month we have been focusing on the character trait of RESPECT. Teachers have done activities and lessons to help teach respect to all of our students. October's trait is RESPONSIBILITY. Please join us for mass on Friday followed by the awards.

We have received MANY complements on our teacher shirts this year  so we have decided to sell them to everyone! Place your orders soon so we can order by October (see the attached order form).

Registration forms for the long-awaited Armenian classes went out last week. Classes will begin on Monday after school. Please sign & return your slips as soon as possible (see the attached form).

Reminders:
-Dance Class for grades TK-5 are every Thursday after school. If you are interested, please see the school office. They will be performing during our Harvest festival in November!

Have a great week!

Tips and Tricks for Parenting in the 21st Century

This tip is from PsychologyToday.com:

"The operative word in raising healthy children in this often-times unhealthy digital world they are growing up in is balance. A nutritional analogy works well here. A balanced nutritional diet doesn’t mean 50 percent healthy food and 50 percent junk food. Rather, a balanced diet involves ensuring that your children get adequate nutrition from all of the major food groups while allowing them periodic treats.

The same holds true for your children’s diet of technology. You first need to make sure that your children get the proper “nutrition” they need in their lives, meaning offering them a psychological, emotional, intellectual, social, physical, and spiritual “diet” that will fuel their vigorous development, in addition to fostering healthy self-identity, values, thinking, relationships, and life.

Once this “nourishment” is in place and your children are growing strong mentally and physically, you can then introduce other “foods,” namely, technology, that may or may not be healthy."

A Note from the Principals

Good morning!

Last week I was invited to a meeting for St. Sebastian Sports Project. They have generously chosen our school as one of 60 schools to receive a grant for our sports program! I am very excited about this partnership because it is about so much more than the grant. This foundation has many amazing opportunities for our young student athletes such as special days at USC & LMU, tickets to sporting events, & an exclusive leadership academy!

The last week was a particularly eventful in the school office. I have attached our Christian Code of Conduct from the Archdiocese (can also be found in our handbook). Please read & review it with your students. It is our job to set positive examples and expectations for everyone on our campus. Thank you.

Reminders:
-Dance Class for grades TK-5 began Thursday after school. If you are interested, please see the school office.
-We are holding tryouts for a cheer team on Friday, September 20th from 12:30-1:30pm. Go Spartans!

Have a great week!

This tip is fromChildMind.org:

"E-Cigarettes and Vapes. E-cigarettes are now the most frequently used tobacco product among adolescents — some 2.1 million middle and high school students were e-cigarette users in 2017.”

Mrs. Giron says: Now with these vape companies marketing more directly to our younger children, there are more and more  students trying out this new form of smoking. It can be scary for parents because some vapes look like everyday objects such as USB drives!

A Note from the Principals

I hope everyone had a fun Labor Day weekend! Please remember to join us for Back to School Night on THURSDAY at 6pm. We will begin in the cafeteria & then go to see classrooms.

We received a visit from the North Hollywood traffic division today. They asked me to remind all parents NOT to park in the red zones or in the drop off zone on Hamlin Street. If you would like to walk your student on campus in the morning, please park in the church lot on Victory. Thank you!

Reminders:
-Dance Class for grades TK-5 begins Thursday after school. If you are interested, please see the school office.

-If you refer a family and they register for the 2019-2020 school year, you will both receive a $100 tuition credit for September!
(If you don't see the credit on your Tads.com account- please let me know)

Have a great week!

This tip is from  https://pediatrics.aappublications.org/content/142/1/e20173718:

Be explicit about allowable movie and television show ratings and content your children can watch.

  • ○ Youth whose parents allow them to watch R-rated movies are at higher risk for underage smoking, alcohol use, and cannabis use.

  • ○ Television shows rated above TV-Y7 include significantly greater amounts of sex, smoking, and alcohol use. Media ratings provide information about age-appropriateness of content for children, although some behaviors (eg, violence and substance use) are not well captured in ratings.
