A Note from the Principal

We are all still in shock after the tragedy in Texas last week. We look to one another and to God for support during challenging times like these. The teachers and I work everyday with the safety of our students as our #1 priority. Student safety is the reason we have a closed and secure campus, why we don't let parents in through the parking lot gate during the school day, why we ask parents not to order from food delivery services, and why we check emergency forms when new faces come to pick up your children from class. We are heartbroken but always vigilant. Here are a few resources for you if you are struggling with how to speak to your students about this event:

·Parent Guidelines for Helping Youth After the Recent Shooting (The National Child Traumatic Stress Network – English/Spanish)
·Talking to Children About Violence: Tips for Parents and Teachers (National Association of School Psychologists)

Tomorrow (Wednesday) the dance and Armenian classes will be putting on a performance downstairs in the theatre at 6pm. Also, the art show is still on display until after the show tomorrow. Please stop by!

We are looking forward to summer break. You should be receiving the summer reading and supply lists for next year before the last day of school on June 10th.
Our first day of school will be Wednesday, August 17th.

We would like to give a big shout out to first grade for having the highest growth percentage in the school in their STAR scores for Early Literacy, to 7th grade for having the highest growth in Math, and to 4th grade for their growth in Reading! All of our students have improved so much this year. Please be sure to read a lot this summer :)

REMINDERS::
-Dodger Fundraiser: you purchase the tickets from our Dodger website, our school will receive a donation from the team! There are also student prizes available too. See the flyer below and our personalized site: https://fevo.me/stjanefrancesdechantal

-Service hours: There are many upcoming opportunities for service hours but the year IS coming to an end. On Schoolspeak we have a "Service Hours Signup" or "School Wishlist" if you'd like to complete service hours through donations. We will also need:
-Construct a train play yard toy that is rather large for kindergarten (All hours will be completed)
Please see Mrs. Castro if you are interested in volunteering for the above opportunities OR if you have any questions about your hours. Any incomplete hours after May 20 will be billed in June.

A Note from the Principal

**This is a long email- but full of important information-PLEASE READ.

Congratulations to our 2nd graders who made their First Communion on Saturday! Thank you to Ms. Dominguez, Ms. Ventura, & Mrs. Sangalang for stepping up and helping to make our first Communion a beautiful day for our students.

We are so proud of Ms. Ashli Redden, Mr. Reynald Ventura, and Ms. Brittnie Nerkins for completing their Master's Degrees this year. Being a teacher AND a student through the pandemic was an amazing accomplishment. CONGRATULATIONS!!

This Friday is our Fine Arts Night at 5pm. Please join us for our Art Show and Drama Club performance of 101 Dalmatians. Our Art Show will also be on display Tuesday, 5/31 from 3-4pm and on Wednesday June 1 from 3-7:30pm!

This week is our Book Fair from Tuesday at 7:30am to Friday at 10:30am. Come and stock up on your summer reading books! Volunteer sign ups are still available on Schoolspeak.

We have many new lunch tables that we need to put together. If you are interested, please contact Mrs. Castro at [email protected].

Student of the Month awards will be on Thursday during morning assembly at 7:45am.

We will be having a Pizza Sale for $5 on Friday after school.

Please join us for Family Mass on Sunday 5/29 at 9am.

This Monday 5/30 there will be no school in honor of Memorial Day.

Due to a lack of enrollment, our Summer School on campus has been cancelled. If you are still looking around for summer camps, here is a list of some fun ones that I know of around the area: CLICK HERE.

As we are winding down the school 2021-22 year, we are also preparing for the school year to come! We are SO blessed to be able to add 5 brand new positions this year so we are in the middle of interviewing and hiring some fabulous new teachers. I am also excited to announce that we have been chosen as a mentor school for another Onward Leader Principal- some of you will remember Ms. Aceves and Mr. Ranney, our previous Onward Leader co-Principals. Next year Ms. Ashley Reagan will be joining me as co-Principal. Please read her bio HERE.

A Note from the Principal

Thank you all for your prayers and blessings on Ms. D (Now Mrs. Bennett) and her new husband last week. Our school was blessed to have been included in their special day.

Please keep second grade in your prayers this week as they will receive two sacraments! On Thursday they will receive the sacrament of reconciliation for the first time and on Saturday they will receive their first communion. Please join us on Saturday at 12pm in the church if you can!

STAR Testing continues this week. Your teachers will let you know when the students will be testing. Please be sure that your student is here and has a good breakfast so they can do their very best!

On behalf of all of our SJF faculty and staff we'd like to say THANK YOU for all of the treats last week. Our teachers were fed so well and spoiled by all of our families. We have the best parents and students!

A Note from the Principal

Happy Teacher Appreciation Week!
Our room parents have planned a fun week for our teachers and students.
"Our Teachers are so Sweet"
Monday: Bring in a Flower or Plant for your Teacher
Tuesday: Dress Like Your Teacher Day
Wednesday: Classroom Takeover
Thursday: Note of Appreciation Day
-Students and parents will send a note of thanks to their teacher (this can be a song, letter, video, poem, card, etc)
Friday: Carwash for the teachers
Thank you for helping to celebrate our teachers this year!

We would like to invite all of our parents to celebrate Fr. Antonio's 70th birthday with dinner, dancing, and drinks on May 7th. Tickets are $15 on sale in the office. There are weekend service hours available for this event. Sign up on schoolspeak.

Ms. D (our first grade teacher) and her fiancé have invited all of our SJF students to witness the Sacrament of Marriage as they get married here on May 13th! All students will be invited to attend their wedding mass on that Friday. Please remember to come in full mass attire. The couple respectfully ask that there be no gifts and simply want to share their special day with our school community.

We have another service hour opportunity- we have 3 more picnic tables for the upper yard. We need someone to put them together for us tomorrow or Wednesday at anytime during the day. If you are interested, please let Mrs. Castro know [email protected]

We'd like to wish Mr. Cuevas (our PE coach) and Fr. Antonio a happy birthday this Saturday 5/7. May they both have a blessed and very happy day!
