SJF PARENT BOOK CLUB
THANK YOU for joining us on our 10-week journey through this insightful book. Here are the top 10 take aways:
  1. Delay smartphones and social media. Childhood is not a race. Less screen time now builds stronger mental health later.

  2. Protect sleep at all costs. Well-rested children are more joyful, focused, and resilient. Phones do not belong in bedrooms.

  3. Bring back free play. Unstructured, outdoor play teaches problem-solving, courage, and cooperation.

  4. Let kids do hard things. Struggle is not harm — it’s how confidence is built.

  5. Choose real friendships over virtual ones. Face-to-face connection matters more than likes and followers.

  6. Normalize boredom. Creativity and independence grow when children learn to entertain themselves.

  7. Set clear family tech boundaries. Kids feel safer when adults lead with consistency and clarity.

  8. Model healthy phone habits. What children see us do matters more than what we say.

  9. Anchor your family in faith. Prayer, gratitude, and service give children a sense of meaning beyond themselves.

  10. Lean on your village. When families, schools, and churches work together, children thrive.

Thank you for partnering with us to form children who are not just academically prepared, but confident, compassionate, and grounded in faith. Together, we are rebuilding childhood — one intentional choice at a time.

Saint of the Day 1/19
Every saint has a story & Saint Fabian was a Roman layman who came into the city from his farm one day as clergy and people were preparing to elect a new pope. Eusebius, a Church historian, says a dove flew in and settled on the head of Fabian. This sign united the votes of clergy and laity, and he was chosen unanimously.

Happy New Year!!

I hope that 2026 brings many positive surprises and new experiences for you and your family.

PARKING: The church is finished repaving the lower lot. THANK YOU so much for your flexibility and patience during the construction. I know it was inconvenient. We are happy to be back to our regular drop-off and pick-up routines. Please remember to tell anyone picking up or dropping off these reminders:
-All families (with few exceptions for neighborhood families) should enter through Victory Blvd. for pickup and drop off.
-Please do NOT walk in through the Hamlin Gate.
-Please drive SLOWLY. There are children everywhere.
-Please stick to your colored pickup times. We kindly ask that you remain parked until the gates open so we can avoid lines to the street.

Good afternoon,

Great job to the drama class, choir, Armenian language classes, and the ballet class for an amazing performance last week!

Christmas Spirit Week:
Monday: Pajama Day
Tuesday: Dress as your favorite Christmas Character!
Wednesday: Flannel, ugly sweaters, and scarves (with school bottoms)
Thursday: Christmas Best (for Holiday Concerts)
Friday: Band Tees and Holiday Flair with school bottoms OR Mass attire
The whole week is regular dismissal times and NO daycare or after-school classes on Friday. School will resume on Wednesday, January 7th.

The church is having a New Year's Eve party. Join them for a night of dancing and good food. Purchase tickets in the church office.

PARKING: The church is still repaving the lower parking lot. We thank you for your continued patience as we navigate the logistics of this project. Logistics of drop off and pick up will be the same. Families may park on Hamlin Street instead of the church lot this week. We know it will be a bit frustrating over the next week, so please try not to arrive early for pickup and plan for extra time if needed.

A Note from the Principals

Good afternoon,

Thank you all for the generous donations for our Adopt a Family Project! You have made three families' whole Christmas!!

This week, the students will have mass on Monday AND on Friday.

Santa's workshop will be on Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday this week. All students have received a white envelope to make their Christmas list and bring in their money.

PARKING: This week, starting tomorrow, the church will start repaving the lower parking lot. We thank you in advance for your patience as we navigate the logistics of this project. Logistics of drop off and pick up will be the same. Families may park on Hamlin Street instead of the church lot this week. Due to the limited parking, we have decided to cancel the Christmas train parade this year. We know it will be a bit frustrating over the next week, so please try not to arrive early for pickup and plan for extra time if needed.

Please join us for our Winter Showcase performance Thursday night at 7pm and support our Performing Arts programs. See attached flyer! Pre-purchase your tickets and Cocoa & Cookies packages online here (ticket prices will increase at the door): https://www.zeffy.com/en-US/ticketing/sjf-winter-showcase           *Note: this is SEPARATE from our classroom Christmas shows on Thursday, Dec. 18th, and is meant to be a fundraiser for our performing arts classes. Everyone is invited.

Kids today are sleeping less than any generation before them, largely because of late-night scrolling. Sleep loss fuels anxiety, irritability, and poor focus.

A Note from the Principals

Good afternoon,

I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving! We are so blessed to be a small part of your children's lives. We are so grateful that you have chosen St. Jane Frances as your school and community.

Fr. Santi would like to invite you all to the Ecumenical Prayer service tomorrow, Tuesday 12/2/25 at 7 pm at St. Leon Church (3325 North Glenoaks Blvd. Burbank, CA 91504) as well as the Armenian service at our church this Sunday at 10 am as we will be hosting Bishop Hovnan. Both services are open to everyone. Please join us.

The church is also hosting an Advent retreat this Saturday from 7:30am to 1:30pm. It is $15 per person and is meant to bring us all closer as a community and to our Lord. Please call the parish office to register.

Our yearly dental screening will be tomorrow (Tuesday). If you do not wish for your child to have the screening, please fill out the form sent home or let your teacher know.

We are adopting 3 families in need this Christmas through the Archdiocese's "Adopt a Family" Program. These are families that have shown a great need of help. We hope everyone can help in one way or another. Here is the list of items we need to collect to help these families through the holidays: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10C0544A4AE2AA2FDC43-60514001-christmas#/

Week 4: Freedom Builds Resilience
Kids grow strong by facing small challenges and recovering from them. Overprotection and constant supervision — even with love — can stifle confidence.

Try this: Let your child walk the dog, ride their bike, or order their own food. Independence grows courage.
