Good morning,

Thank you to everyone who came to our Casino Night & Pajama party. I'm not sure who had more fun- the kids or the parents :)  A special thank you to our event committee and sponsors for coordinating everything for this special day! If you won a silent auction or raffle prize, we will be reaching out by tomorrow.

Here is a gentle reminder to check your child's phone on a regular basis. Many bigger problems can be prevented by checking what they are doing online and texting to their friends. Blessing of the Animals is on Wednesday. It will begin during morning assembly. Families are invited to bring in a pet (on a leash or in a cage) to be blessed. All animals must leave campus after the assembly is over. Students may also bring a photo or a stuffed animal.

It's progress report time, but our new system isn't pulling the reports correctly. Teachers will reach out to any parents if they have an academic concern. Please use this week to ask your teachers any questions about academics if you have any. Parent conferences will be held November 18-20th.

No school on Monday, Oct. 12- Indigenous Peoples' Day.

Halloween Volunteer Sign-ups. If you are interested in volunteering to decorate your trunk on Halloween for our Trunk-or-Treat, we need 30 parent volunteers. Click the sign-up genius link to sign up: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10C0D49ACA722A0FDCE9-59001898-trunk

MEET THE SAINT SEBASTIAN SPORTS PROJECT
Supporting Catholic Schools Through Sports

WHO ARE WE?
The Saint Sebastian Sports Project is non-profit, founded in 2009 that supports the sports programs at 80 Catholic schools in the LA Archdiocese to give every school child in the Los Angeles Archdiocese the chance to learn the skills, experience the growth, and share in the joy of participating in a school sports team.

WHAT DO WE DO?
 Help fund equipment, uniforms and team fees for 80 Catholic schools in the Archdiocese
 Host clinics to make sure kids are receiving quality coaching
 Hold tournaments to give teams that don’t normally qualify for post-season play the thrill of competing
in a championship
 Score tickets to UCLA, USC games and other local sporting events
 Hold a Leadership Academy for outstanding high school bound 8th graders

WHO ARE OUR PARTNERS?
We have partnered with a number of like-minded organizations to expand our reach and deepen our impact.
 Fit Kids- provides a comprehensive physical education curriculum to every SSSP school
 The Science of Sport—hosts an annual field day to teach STEM subjects through sports
 LA84- provides coaching stipends for our schools
 Smart & Final—offers annual grants for uniforms and equipment

WHAT ARE THE RESULTS?
Numerous studies have established the positive effects of exercise among children and teens. SSSP schools report higher attendance rates for students who play sports. Student athletes also achieve higher grades and tend to go on to play sports in high school. Pope Francis has noted the importance of sports, pointing out that sport is a tool that can be used for problem solving and to “achieve a profound transformation of our society.”

QUESTIONS?
Visit our web site: www.saintsebastianporject.org or reach out to your school Athletic Director or Principal for more information on how you and your child can benefit from SSSP.

A Note from the Principals

Good morning,
Thank you to everyone who came to Grandparents' Day on Friday. It was a beautiful day celebrating our grandparents! A special thank you to our event committee for coordinating everything for this special day!

Congratulations to Sofia Castillo for winning our first raffle for $200 off tuition. You can win for October by going to church on Sunday at 9am and checking in with the teacher every week!

Thank you to the following parents for donating to our athletics department by donating athletic mats:
Tina Kostikyan
Mary Kostikyan
Annette Sarafyan
You are amazing!

Be sure to RSVP for the Gala this Saturday! It is a mandatory event and we hope to see you there.

Vision2Learn will be visiting our school next Monday to do FREE vision screenings for all students in grades K-8. Vision2Learn is a mobile vision center paid for by donors to ensure all students have glasses. If your child does need glasses, they will have a full eye exam as well as receive a free pair of prescription glasses.
Opt-Out forms will be distributed this week (only if you do not want your child to participate).

Armenian class charges were accidentally billed for the year instead of month by month. This will be corrected today. We apologize for any confusion.

Reminders from last week:
Our school Gala will be on Saturday, October 4 at 7pm. The gala is included in your service hours this year. All families will be charged $50 on Facts today for two tickets in September. To purchase additional tickets or become a sponsor, click here: bit.ly/SJFGala (all sponsorships & silent auction item donations can be added to your fundraising this year).
Q: Where is the gala taking place?
A: The event will be held in the school gymnasium, transformed for a fun and festive Casino Night experience!
Q: How many tickets does each family receive?
A: This is a mandatory event & each family is required to purchase 2 tickets. These have already been charged to your FACTS account.
Q: What will be included with the tickets?
A: Your ticket gives you access to:
-Silent Auction: Bid on amazing items and experiences.
-Casino Games: Enjoy $10 in chips for craps, roulette, and poker tables. (additional chips available for purchase)
-Bar Service: A selection of beverages will be available.
-Dinner & Dessert: A delicious meal and sweet treats to enjoy throughout the night.
-Prizes: Exciting door prizes and giveaways during the evening.
Q: Is there a service hour requirement associated with purchasing tickets?
A: Yes! Purchasing 2 tickets earns 2 hours of volunteer service for your family. Additionally, each family member attending in person will earn 2 more hours for attending. Any items purchased in the silent auction will count toward your fundraising requirement.
Q: Is childcare available?
A: Yes! We are offering a childcare pajama party in the cafeteria for $10 per child. Kids can enjoy activities, games, and snacks while parents enjoy the gala.
Q: What should I expect for the evening?
A: Prepare for a night of fun, socializing, and supporting our school! Test your luck at casino tables, bid in the silent auction, enjoy dinner and dessert, and celebrate with friends and family—all while helping our school reach its fundraising goals.
Q: What is the Dress Code?
A: Semi-formal or cocktail attire
Q: How can I RSVP or pay for childcare?
A: CLICK HERE to RSVP

Many Blessings!

THE DIGITAL PARENT
Tips and Tricks for Parenting in the 21st Century

Digital Resource: Dangers of Location Sharing
Your location is one of the most dangerous pieces of information about yourself if it’s in the wrong hands. Unfortunately, convincing kids to share their location is a common grooming tactic we’ve seen before. That’s why kids should know to never share their location, the school they attend, or any other location-specific information with strangers online.

A Note from the Principals

Good morning!

First, I am asking everyone for your special prayers for our secretary, Mrs. Castro. She has been in the ICU since last Tuesday, and is not doing well. If you need anything, please contact Mrs. Giron or Mrs. Zivari.

Our first week of school was full of smiles, new friends, and learning! This week, we will begin full days. Please remember to pack a lunch or order one from Ali Catering. It will be hot again this week. We have filtered bottle fillers, but please remember to send water with your student. Click here for our heat policy

Friday will be our first school mass for grades K-8. It will begin at 8am in the church. If arriving after 8am please go directly to the church. Parents, feel free to stay and join us for mass!

This year, Fr. Santi is encouraging all parents to come to church as a family on Sundays at 9am. We will have a teacher in the section next to the choir every Sunday. If you sign in with them, your family will be entered into a raffle to win $200 off of tuition starting on September 7th!

We want to thank everyone for your patience during pickup & dropoff last week. The first week is always very busy. To make it a little easier, remember:
1. No drop off or pickup on Hamlin Street
2. Do not line up in the parking lot before 2:30 (12:15 on Fridays). Gates will open at 2:30 daily and 12:15 on Fridays. If you come about 5-10 minutes after dismissal, there are fewer cars.
3. Treat everyone with kindness and respect whenever you are on campus. All parents agreed to a Parent Code of Christian Conduct upon enrollment and are subject to disciplinary measures (including but not limited to expulsion) if it is violated.
